LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. Tke ordinary meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last ovening, the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) .presiding. There were also present Councillors Hbbs, lverr, Cotton, Brassel, Carver, Meldruni, and Clendon. Sirs. E. Strand wrote agreeing to dedicate a. portion of the land at the corner of Main Eoad and Brunswick Street, in order that the corner may be improved, such improvements being specified. U was resolved to accept the dedication provided the Mayor and Borough Engineer are satisfied ae to the conditions. Aifto ra long discussion, on an application from residents in Stilling Street to have the footpath asphalted, it was resolved to instruct the engineer to clean up and gravel all the footpaths, the question-of asphalting came to be considered later. \ _"' ' A letter was received from Mr. J. 1. Hawthorn with respect to giving the council a further lease of the municipal offices. The writer asked .£162 a year for a seven years' lease, the rent to be payable monthly. It was resolved to defer consideration of tho matter until next ineoting, in the meanwhile inquiries to be made as to whether other suitable premises conld 1* obtained. Tho Napier Borough Council wrote askin« for the consideration and support of the Lower Hutt Borough ,Conncil for a resolution passed by the Napier Council asking the Government to take over control of the food supply of the countrv. The letter was received. ■ There was free discussion respecting wandering stock, and it was ( ecided to adopt drastic measures to abate Ino trouble.
