BOKOtJGH CtrtJNCIL MEETING. Mr. J. *W. M'Ewan, Mayor, prqsided over last evening's meeting: of the Petoiic Borough Council. The Napier Borough Council asked tho Petone Council to support a resolution urging the Government to control tho food supply of Now It was decided to endorse the proposal. Councillor M'Keiizie moved the following motion:— ''That it is tho desire of the Petone Borough Council that the Government should seriously consider placing on tho Statute Book legislation for ttio purpose of levying a tax on,all vehicles, whether utilised for business or pleasure, throughout the Dominion, for the maintenance of tho main arterial roads. Tho revenue from such tax. to be expended pro rata on tho repairs of the roads in thoir respective districts." Tho motion was not seconded. Tho engineer reported that tho power for electrically lighting the town clock would be laid on in a few days. The coat of laying tho cable was .555 Is.'— .£5 more than was estimated. The Borough Inspector reported that the fees for annual "licences collected during tho month amounted to £1 12s. j Several owners were being prosecuted for allowing stock to wander on the streets and tho Esplanade. A deputation from the Taita Cemetery Board waited upon the council to support a request that the council increase its grant to J2O. The" council decided to accede to the request.
