The Maori, which sailed for Lyttelton last evening, was a full ship, and a lot of the overflow passengers were accommodate:! on the Monowai. The majority of the passengers were bent on being present at the 0.J.0. Meeting, which opens on Thursday next, and will be concluded on Saturday. There are no race meetings being held in Sydney at the present time owing to the strike. When the last mail loft three meetings had already been postponed indefinitely. At Trentham 11. Ambrose is keeping the Endeavour, Lodge team going until the return of J. Lowe from Eiccartqn. after which Monelaus and probably Matilda ?ud Coving will be sent along smavlly iu view of the Otaki Meeting. , The tracks at Nanier have been in a very bad stats during the last couple f>f weeks, and little or no work has been done on them. Gold Painting will not bo sent S'juth for the Hiccartori Meeting. C. l'ritchard, in charge of Thoughtful, and A. Goodman/in charge of Mount Yictoria, went south last night. They will be the last of the. visitins horses to arrive at Eiccarton. .
The Auckland winner Gluepot was aboard the Monowai, which passed through here yesterday for the south. The trio from Ellerelie to Biccarton has occupied juat a week, so the National prospects of Gluepot will not be enhanoed. ' Prom what can be gathered the Auckland Racing Club is likely to have a fair number of applicants for the position of handicapper, rendered vacant by. the death of Mr. Gco. Morse. The names of two prominent Ellorslie trainers are men-, tioned amongst the probables for the position.
A Sydney writer mentions that E. J. Mason has sold Bimeter to a Queensland owner. The Malster horse has been lame since he left the Dominion, but he is now sound again. . When Desert Gold goes to Sydney she will be accompanied by her full-brother Ecynt. It was originally intended to take the Kilbroney—Success colt, but he is not forward enough to make the trip. Several prominent owners were aboard the Maori bound for the south last evening. Amongst the number' were Messrs. W. Eichmond, D. Barry, J. H. Colebourne, and B. Short. Mr. J. Jackson, .owner of Marconi, pasned through Wellington yesterday on his way south. Prior to the boat leaving he received a telegram fvom his trainer, 0. Coleman, stating that S. Henderson had schooled the Soult gelding, who gave a satisfactory performance.
