PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
. NOTJC.E.-3 OP MOTION. Councillor M'Kopzin has given .uol.ico that ho iviil more at to-night's meeting of tho Peteno Borough Council:— (1) "That it is tho dcsiro of tho Pelone Borough Council that tho Government should seriously, consider placing on tho Statute Book legislation for the purpose of levying a, tax on all vehicles, whether utilised for business or pleasure, throughout tho Dominion, for tho mninlenam.'o of tho main arterial roads. Tho rcvomio from each tax to be expended pro rata on the repairs of tho roads in their respective districts/' (In. :i. noto, Councillor M'Konzio states that tho present system of taxation is not altogether an equitable one, tho taxation being levied too much in proportion against pedestrians as against proprietors of vehicles. The former causing littlo or no damage are burdened with the taxation, the latter causing a great percentage of destruction in proportion by speeds and tonnage. The power given local bodies is unsatisfactory, as each has the right to tax the samo car, which is unreasonable.) ■ (2) "That this council strongly protests against the Government reducing tho age limit under tho Military Servico 'Act. to boys of nineteen xea're of age. They are not men physically, and iheir bodies are not matured, and are consequently not fit for the severe strain they shall have to endnro on tho battlefield. Tho result arising therefrom will bo more detrimental than beneficial."
