THE TROUBLES OF DR. GILRUTH
" MIXED BECEETION AT DABWIN. :- ' " ' (EecT'-'iiigust 6, 10.25 p.m.) Darwin, August 6. Dr. J. A. Gilr.uth (Administrator of , the Northern. Territory) had a mixed reception on. returning from Melbourne to Teassume his administrative duties. The . Labour Mayor and councillors, held a meeting of their supporters in the Town Hall, and protested against Dr. Gilruth'a , reappointment and the discourtesy shown to the Mayor in not asking him to participate in the welcome to the Administrator. One speaker urged the workers to refuse to. work until Dr. Gilruth was' t>ooted"ont of the Territory neck and crop. A subsequent meeting of the leading townsmen welcomed Dr. Gilruth. At this ' meeting it was stated that the Mayor and councillors had refused to convene a meeting of the residents to welcome the Administrator.
Later on the Mayor and councillors Tisi.ted the Administrator at Government House, and an understanding was reached to work harmoniously during the present time of stress—Press Assn.
