PUBLICAN'S COMPENSATION
Sir,—Oh reading over the suggestions of tho Efficiency Board in Wednesday's Dominion, re compensating what is called tho Trade, it strikes cne as strange that this special business should be singled out to receivo compensation, and to ovou advocate tb.o Rdnlteration to 50 per cent, under-proof—by water, of. courso—thereby nearly donating their profits whilst tho poor milkman was was fined ,£SO through water getting into his milk by some mistake. Now, sir, how many of our countrymen 3nd citizens have been compelled by conscription to part with their farms and places of business to go to the front and tight for their country who receive no compensation, and a very little "screw"? On the l>ne of it it does not look fair. Tho hotelkeepers as a rule are not « hard-worked people nnd who make iheir money easy; therefore at a time like this a deep study is necessary to come to a right conclusion^am^k^ Waikanae, August 2, 1017.
