CHARGE OF MURDER
TWO BOYS .COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegranil—Press Association. Thames, August 3. The two boys concerned in the drowning of Irene Quinn, a little girl of six years, were charged before Mr. Page, S:M., to-day with murder. The accused are Ernest Claude Gibbons, aged eight, and Richard Reihana, aged ten. They are defended by Messrs. Clendon and Hogben respectively, Inspector Phair prosecuting. The evidence showed that the three children were seen near the bank of the Kirikiri Creek on July 19. Subsequently the boys were seen going home without the girl, whose clothes -were subsequently found on the bank of the creek. The girlwas unablo to "undress herself. The body was recovered next day. The boys, when questioned, made statements incriminating each other. , Counsel contended that there was no direct evidence to justify the sending of the boys for trial. - The Magistrate considered the case to be one for a jury, and committed it for trial at Auckland on August 13. The boys were admitted to bail.
