DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES
A NATIONAL AND PATRIOTIC CHARITY. We have received an urgent appeal from Dr. Bernardo's Homes in re-p.xt to the annual collection of 100,000 Imllcrowns for the I'ood Bill Fund for their great family of over 7000 children during the coming lean months. Last year they raised 107,103 half-crowns in memory ot the lato .Dr. liarnarilo, and nrej moil anxious to do at least as well this year, because tho need is greater owing to tho constant increase in the cost ot loou. Dr. Bernardo's Homos can claim tho sympathy of all citizens of the ISritisii Empire. They have rescued and trained the; nutioii's eiestitute children to become Rood and patriotic citizens. They have helped to build up the Empire witli British-born. They have admitted over 4000 children since war broke out, a large proportion of these being the children of our bravo soldiers and sailors. jN early 10,000 Barnado boys are fighting lor tho Empire. One was recommended lor the V.iJ., but died before ho could receiVo the coveted honour; seven have gained the Military Medal; three have been mentioned in dispatches; 11 nave gained commissions; one has reached the rank of major. The majority ot those who have distinguished themselves are in the overseas contingents. He icel sure that our readers will wish to show their appreciation of this national and Imperial work by 'taking , part in the animal collection of half-crowns.
