With regard to the resumption' of the West Coast passenger service from Wellington the Westport Harbour Board has received the following from the general .manager of tho Union Company through the Minister of Marine:—"The prospects of any improvement in the traffic appear remote, but, wo have had the matter under consideraion for some time past, and on Wednesday last wc instructed our Wellington management to make the necessary arrangements to recommission tho Mapourika at the end of this month, when our intention is to run her for a monh, at least, in the hopes that it will be found conditions have improvod sufncienly to warrant the continuance of the service. Ifwaßalso mentioned that as the facilities for overland trade from the West Coast had improved, the steamer traffic had considerably fallen, so that the running of a, passenger steamer on the Coast meant a heavy loss to. the company, especially in the winter. The passenger service to the West Coa6t will be resumed to-morrow by the Mapourika, which will leave Wellington at 9 p.m. for Nelson, Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika.
