MEMBER OF N.S.W. LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY FINED. Sydney, July 27. Mr. I'. Brookfield, M.L.A. for Sturt,. has been fined JEIOO or six mouths' imprisonment for stating that ho would not fight for the Union Jack, hilt would only spill his blood for the Red I'lug. All the miners at Broken Hill ceased work as a protest. A meeting of several thousand ivas helfl outside the Court, where Red Flag songs were sung—Press Association. [In the courso of a public speech at South Broken Hill on March 29, Mr. Brookfield replied to criticisms concerning his reported utterances. He said:--"I have told you where I stand. I said that as far as the "Union Jack was concerned or any other flag, J would uofc spill a drop "of my blood in ai.y war where millions of people were allowed to starve, and while a few wero allowed to make a profit out of the war, but if any army of any country comes hero to attempt to lower our standard of living, I am to fight under the Red Flag to maintain the conditions of life here. lam not going to repudiate what I have said. I ']
