Single and domble tickets, as well as tickets for onlookers, may bo obtained from tho secretary, Mrs. Smythe, 19 Brougham Street, or from members of the committee, and it was stated at the meeting that a special place from which a good view of the floor will bo obtainable will 'be kept for the children's mothers. A supper committee was set up and arrangements mode in'.regard to tho music. One of the most interesting evenings held at the Soldiers' Club in Sydney Street for some considerable time was that which took place last eveniug quite unexpectedly, when the Hon. Dr. Pomare and Sir James Carroll brought across to the club a party of Maori soldiers, about fifty in number, from Narrow Neck. With, them came several of their rext-of- ' kin and their friends, and the usually even tenor of events at the elub became somewhat transformed in character. Several speeches were made by the visitors, i)r. Pomare acting as interpreter, since they were spoken in Maori. The speakers ■were Mr. A. T. Ngata, M.P., Mr. To Henare, M.P., Lady Carroll, Mrs. Mure- '■■• wai Mutin, Te Heu Hen Tukino (the chief who some time ago gave 35,000-J acres for the settlement of Maori soldiers), Mr. Tunuiorangi, and Sergeant Turi Carroll, nephew of Sir James Carroll. Mrs. Massey warmly welcomed the Maori "soldiers and their. friends, and in the course of a very sympathetic, speech said how proud she was to welcome them to the Soldiers' Club. She had seen many of .their kinsmen in London, and the bravory and heroism they had shown fighting side by side.with their pakeha comrades in the most gigantic and terrible war the world had ever seen was beyond praise. As president of the club she extended a cordial invitation to the Maori soldiors to make use of the club during, their, stay in Wellington. Following the speeches came hakas danced with much enthusiasm by the visitors, and various musical items, Lieutenant Stainton (who. has won the distinction of a Military Cross) and Private Hurston contributing songs, choruses being surig as well. The Jolinsonville ladies were the hostesses, and their cordial hospitality was . greatly ' appreciated by the visiting soldiers. Among those who were present, in addition to Mrs. Massey,.wore Miss Massey and Mrs. Pomare. ':•'/" "v -

He was of opinion nlso that the dependant's of First Division men who had relative responsibilities should receive the same allowances as those of Second Division men. He considered that it was not right to merge military pensions in oldage pensions.
