IN QUEST IN SHOOTING CASE
CORONER ADVISES INSTRUCTION IN HANDLING FIREARMS. By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, July 21. An inquest was held to-day concerning ■the death of Roy Loder, 18 years of age, who accidentally shot himself on Sunday at Hurford Road. From the evidence o? a companion, aifsd 17, who instructed the deceased how to use the gun, it appeared that deceased and his companion separated, and on returning deceased got through a wire fence, apparently pulling the gun through, when the hammer struck a post, discharging the contents of a cartridge into deceased's ]\eart. Death was almost instantaneous. The Coroner, Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., in recording a verdict, suggested that it would be beneficial for boys to receive instructions at school regarding the handling of firearms, also in boating and swimming, especially floating, as well as being impressed with the danger r.f t'ectric wires, thus preventing many regrettable accidents.
