WAR LEAGUE
RESOLUTIONS OP GENERAL MEETING. A general meeting of the War League, presided over by tile Mayor, Mr. J. P. .Luke, C.M.G., was held ill the Council Chambers last evening. The Mayor moved tho following resolutions collectively:— "That this meeting of the War League affirms (a) that New Zealand should do her part in the war to the end, and (b) that the principle of equality of sacrifice should be applied by legislation 'to the whole community. "That New Zealand should keep up its reinforcements at their full strength, and at the same time increase, if possible, its output of food. "That this can only be accomplished by the organisation of the whole community, including 1 women, for national service, and by the utilisation of tho services of every available person." Mr. J. P. Firth seconded. They were, told, he said, that the country could' not afford tho' call npon it. That was nonsense. The country could afford it, and, if tho country could not afford it,-who should go short? Those who were in the trenches, or those who had stayed behind ? The following resolutions were also carried:—"That the amount necessary to provide adequately for soldiers and their dependants should be raised by a fpecial graduated income tax and other meansS." "That this league bring again 'to the notice of tho Prime Minister the insurance schemo previously submitted by it to him." "That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the Prime Minister, and that the executive be instructed to arrange for a deputation to present the resolutions to Mr. Massey, and urge their adoption."
