A German official report states: "Our concentrated massed artillery fire in Flanders frustrated English reconnaissances in the coastal region and eastward of Ypres. We stormed the French hoights south-west of St. Quentin on a kilometro (three-fifths of a mile), capturing many prisoners and defeating counter-at-tacks.
