ADDRESS-IN-REPLY THE BUTTER-FAT LEVY MINISTERIAL DEFENCE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Leave of .absence for the remainder of the session was granted to the Hon. Colonel W. E. Collins (Wellington). SIR FRANCIS BELL moved, that the Council should place on record its regret that the Hon. Sir Henry John Miller had found it necessary to resign the seat in the Council which ho had held for more than fifty years with honour to himself and advantage to the country. He said that Sir Henry Miller had been called to the Council considerably more than fifty years ago, and he had held always the respect and confidence of his fellowmembers. He had always been a notable figure in the Council, and his retirement at a very ripe age was an undoubted loss. Sir Henry Miller had rowed in the Oxford boat in the 'fifties of tho last century, and he had retained till the present day his love of the classics and his interest in affairs. Only one member, the Hon. Colonel Baillie, now remaining in the Council had held his seat from the very early days of the Council's existence. The motion was supported by the Hon, O. Samuel (Taranaki) and. carried. Tho report of the Joint Committee on Reporting Debates and Printing, dealing with the curtailment .of Hansard, was held over. The Council adjourned at 3 p.m. until Wednosday next.
