Mr. .T. H. Andersson, Acting-Consul-in-Chief for Sweden, paid an official gall ,011 His Excellency the Governor-General yesterday.
Lieutenant M. D. Smith, of the 29th Reinforcements; lias been admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court.
Mr. I\ H. Denton, Town Cleric at Greymouth goes into camp this month. He was granted three months' leave of absence on full pay. The Borough Engineer, Mr. W. J. O'Donnell, has been temporarily appointed Acting-Town Clerk.
Mr. E. T. Batley, of Moawhango, died in a private hospital in Wellington on Saturday. Mr. Batley was one of the best known men on the .Main Trunk line, where he was engaged in sheep farming and storekeeping.
Sergeant Stanley Temple, son of Mr. F. W. Temple, of Masterton, wlio is at present in Edinburgh, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
Mr. C. S. Owen, of Dunedin, will shortly retire from the active management of the New Zealand Express Company. When the business was under private ownership Mr. Owen was a partner, and for a number of years, he has been managing director. On his retirement from the position lie will remain a member of tho board. Mr. R. T. Duthie, until recently manager cf the branch at Dunedin, has been appointed secretary to the company. The Rev. C. B. W. Seton, vicar of Raglan, lias been. appointed Army C haplain to the 28th Reinforcements.
Sir Arthur Currie, the r.cw Commandant of the Canadian Forces m France, is married to a sister or Airs. 'Angus Gordon, of Papatoetoe, Auckland. Advice received on Saturday last "by Mrs. H. J. Darroch. stated that her son, •who was wounded and passed on June 7, is progressing favourably. Ho is m-the Brocklehurst Hospital. The late Mr. Francis Greer, who died at his residence, Tawa Flat, on July 8, arrived iu Now Zealand from Liverpool with his parents on December 21, 1853. Mr. Greer was one of the first uovernment land valuators, and took *j n { ] c tivc part in the Maori War, and held the position of lieutenant and also drill instructor in the volunteers. Ho was organist for the Church of England at Johnsonvillo and Tawa Flat, and was an architect and contractor. Mr. v£eer mad© his homo on a farm at lawa, lat tor the past 70 years. He leaves a vidow and a family of eight sous and tlirce daughters. ■
