THE FIRST DIVISION
NUMBERS lOT AFTER NINTH BALLOT. •i. return prepared by the Government Statistician (Mr. Malcolm Fraser) shows that at tlie conclusion of the drawing of the N'iitth Ballot on June 30 there vera 22,373 men left in the first Division <£ the Expeditionary Force Reserve. Ths numbers remaining in. tlie respective recruiting districts were as under:— Recruiting District. Ist Division X - Men Left. 1 Auckland City 3757 2 Htuiraki , &>• 3 North Auckland <Sm •iWaikato : lul: > 5 Wellington City 26/9 6 Manawatu aa 7 Hawkc's Bay 1023 8 Taranaki 9 in 9 Christchurch 1.13s 10 South Canterbury «> 11 North Canterbury - , - 11 12 Nelson "09 13 Dunediu 150< U Southland ..'. l l^B 15 North Oln?o ■&' 16 South Otai'o 352 17 Clutha Mi 18 Wairarapa ••• !*■* 19 Poverty Bay ±»l 20 AVangamii <•" 21 West Coast 181S Total "-2,373 Tt is considered that with these 22,37-1 First Division men remaining Ibere will bo sufficient men for three more ballots, after which will come the revision of the sine die exemptions and re-examina-tion of the medical rejects. The "First Division should thus be exhausted by the twelfth ballot, to be taken during the third week in September. As Iho revision of the exemptions and mclicaL rejections is estimated to produce fully one. if not two. drafts, the taking of fho next ballot, the thirteenth, will be posl'poned accordingly, and should take place either in the second week of November or December. Tt may safely be reckoned, therefore, that the first of the married men will be called ud in the thirteenth ballot, which will be held either in the second week of November or December. They will be called •up fer the draft parading two months later.
