SIGNAL SUCCESS OF THE RUSSIANS
14,000 PRISONERS IN ONE WEEK
HALICZ TURNED
GERMAN POLITICAL . CRISIS
TWO MINISTERS THROWN OVERBOARD
The thrilling success of the Russian offensive in Galicia is further enhanced to-day by the news that the Austro-German front between Halicz and tho Carpathians has been broken, Halicz has been turned, and tho Halicz bridgehead is menaced. In six days' fighting General Korniloff has taken 11,000 prisoners and over 50 guns. Tho enemy admits his reverse. Unfavourable weather is hampering the Russian operations on Brzezany. The enemy apparently apprehends danger on the' Rumanian front, where a large concentration of Russo-Rumauian forces is reported. On the French, front yet another German assault has been thrown-into the shambles, only-to retire in a "severely battered condi tion." There me no developments on the other fronts. Apart from the actual operations, the engrossing topic of the moment is tho German political crisis and its probable far-reaching cffecls. Von BethniannHollweg has retained his position, but two of his colleagues, Helfferich and Zimmermann, have been jettisoned for their official failures. Substantial concessions have been granted in Prussia, as a sop to the agitators for constitutional reform. In'the midst of the various signs and portents tho influence of Austria is plainly discernible.
