The initial performance of tho »»«• way Entertainers at St. Thomas s Hall, Newtown, on Saturday mgnt in aid. or the '-widow of the late Conductor Barborougli proved a big success. The hall was crowded, to overflowing. Among- those present were the Mayor nnff Mrs. liuke. The first part or the programme took tho form of. morriinentin a. -Bachelor Flat." Mr. Harry Dunn took the. part or tho Bachelor, and was ably Assisted by Mr. E. Ramsay an "Sprouts," servont. and Mr.;G. Emery as "Onions, the hired, help. Mr. James, Woolcott fans vCry pleasingly, and was encored. Mr. A. Smith, comedian, received hearty applause for his songs, and Mr. K. liamsav scored in his topical songs. Mr. <?. Houston, baritone, was also oncored for hip bolo. Ho was also suocessful in dueta with Mr. H. Dunn. Mr. W. Vernon, tho possessor ot a sweet tenor voice, wa* encored. Mr. Tortcr, who sang a coon mcl-. ody ,got a. good reception, and Mr. 0. Emery excelled in ragtimo. and also caused a. good deal of merriment by his antics as servant. Mr. 0. Stone sang well, his patriotic songs being well received. Mr. Blight, gave ari exhibition of plain club-iwingiiig- ond also Indian fjvo club. Tho first part concluded by _ the troupo singing an Anzao chorus, assisted by returned Anzacß from tho Nowtown Soldiers' Hostel, who marched on lo tho stage during tho singing, and grounded arms on tho final words of tho song "Aimic." 'Hue second part of tho programme took the form of ordinary vaudeville turns by the troupe. Mr. A. Ball acted as pianist-. Mr. 11. Lianlet officiated a,-; stage manager, a good dcal_ of tho troupe's success being due to liim. Several members of tho Tramways Military Hand wcro in' attendance-, and played selections, under tho leadership of Mr. P. Donaldson. A' fair sum should result from the entertainment to assist-a very worthy cause.
