Sir,—l see the AVellington Racing Club are apparently unable to prevail in their efforts to obtain anything more than a silly piebald arrangement from the Railway Department in connection with their forthcoming meeting. Can anyone imagine anything, more ridiculous than attempting to distribute between 2000 and 3000 passengers iii this fashion, allowing 100 on the 7.8 a.m., 100 on the 7.50 a.m., and 150 on the '8.30 a.m., and 700 on the 9.55 a.m. trains? Can't you imagine the fun that is going to talce place at the Lambton Station ? It will bo worth Is. of anyone's money to tako a stroll along. According to Mr. Whyte, the club's secretary, all necessary arrangement , ! to meet reti'iiirements can easily be made without any serious disarrangement by utilising existing trains to the fullest, with the addition of delaying a mixed (naif goods) train an hour and a half. The pop.irtment prefers to hold itself up to ridicule, cause trouble and inconvenience to itself nnd public, drive a thousnnd or two of revenue into private pockets, and Wh from the best brains of a service unablo to spare men for the front.
