METHODIST CHURCH SUPPORTS THE DEPARTMENT

The following motion was carried at the evening service at Taranaki Street Methodist Church yesterday:—"This congregation worshipping in Taranaki Street Methodist Church on Sunday evening, July 8, heartily commends the action of the State Railways Department in refusing lo alter tho train service at Trentham to suit the votaries of racing while the Empire is engaged in a life and death struggle and our 'boys' are enduring untold hardships and making great sacrifices on our behalf. It contends that race meetings are incompatible with the spirit of patriotism and self-sacrifice which the Empire is called upon to manifest at this time." It was decided to send a copy of this resolution to the Minister of Railways and the General Manager of Railways. The resolution was carried by the whole congregation standing.
