SHORTAGE OF SHIPS
CONCERNING TWO FREIGHTERS. A question relating to the shortage of shipping was asked in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr. C. .1. Parr. He said that there were two large cargo boats at present unloading in .Bominion ports. He (was informed that when their unloading was completed tho ships would go to Australia to take in Australian produce. He asked whether it would be possible to detain theso ships here to take New Zealand produce.
The Prime Minister said that his attention had been' called to the facts as mentioned that there were two ships in New Zealand waters discharging cargo, and that it was the intention of the people controlling these ships to take them to.Australia to complete loading there. He had that morning communicated with the authorities in. London asking them whether the insulated space on these ships could'not be loaded in New Zealand" waters. He expected a reply in a day or two.
