Advice has been received by Mrs. iV. H. Betliell. Hutt Road, Pctotte, that her husband, Private W. H. Betliell, of tho Eighteenth Reinforcements, was. wounded and admitted to hospital on Juno 8. suffering from shell-shock. Mr. Betliell was ii prominent Association football player in Wellington, and played with the Swifts Club when it won tho championship in 1301 and 1908. Mr. and Mrs. T. Bassett, of litzhorbert Street, Palmerstou Worth, received cablu advico recently that their son, Ivor George, who enlisted with the lalniersten section of tho Nineteenth lioinfoicemonts, had been killed m actiou on Juno 11. Private Bassett w.is born, and educated at Pelone twenty-fivo years ago, whero his parents resided lor many years. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett will have the sympathy of not only their Maiuv wain friends, but also of the many friends throughout the Hutt Valley. Airs. J. D. Ashdown, of Glen Oroua, Ma.nawatu district, is a sister to. the voung soldier who so gallantly gave nis life in tho struggle for liberty. Captain I'. J. Ewing, lata of the Royal Nn v.y, whoso ship was mined while mineswoepingin the North Sea, arrived in Wellington by the Mararoa from Lyttellon yesterday. Captain Ewing has been on a, farm in Otago, and is rapidly recovering his normal health.
Corporal S. 0. Moraii, solicitor, of Jla-sierton, who has been in enmp for some time, has been granted indefinite, leave without pay owing to his having sustained a partial dislocation of tho elbow.
Advico T!as just been received that Rifleman ./. D. Alunro, who left with tho Nineteenth Reinforcements, was killofl in action on June IG. Rifleman Munro was the second and youngest ton of tho late Thomas Munro,' one of tho early settlers and prominent business men in the township of.Bulls, and later of Maugaweka, from which town young Munro enlisted a few weeks after his older brother, Thomas, who left with the Sixteenth lieinforcements, enlisted. Rifleman Munro was bom at Bulls 02 years ago. and was educated in that town and Mangaweka, afterwards finishing his education at. the Wanganui Collegiate School. His business education commenced in the Bank of Australasia, Napier, and after his cadetship on Mr. Lethbridgo's sheep station at Turakina, he took over his late father's farm at Mangaweka, leaving tho farm in the care of a manager, to. serve his country. Rifleman Munro was prominent in Masonic affair's.
