TROUBLE BETWEEN HOLLAND AND BRITAIN
OVER. THE OBSERVANCE OF THE POTATO AGREEMENT. London', June U. The "Times" correspondent at Amsterdam states that the populace at Rotterdam seized and distributed from a lighter supplies of-potatoes which were consigned to the British Government, thus creating a grave political situation. Under the ".Dutch-British agreement Holland is allowed to export 50 per cent, of the potato crop equally between Britain and Germany. As Holland 'owed Britain 11,000 tons on the 191G agreemont, Britain insisted on receiving the arrears from the 1917 crop before any of it was exported to Germany. The British authorities at The Hague have ascertained that preparatory to the export to Britain Germany warned Holland that grave consequences might ensue, involving the fate of the Dutch ships in Allied harbours. Britain now insists that the seized tubers must'be replaced and the agreement scruplously observed.—The "Times/
