MUNITIONS AND SUPPLIES

WORK OP THE DEPARTMENT.' By Teleeraph.—Press Association. ! Auckland, June 23. Interviewed to-day the Hon. A. 11. Jfyers. gave particulars of the work of tho Munitions and Supplies Department • durinj the past year. Hβ stated that owing to tho prudent polioy adopted in arranging for an accumulation of stocks in all important lines, it liad been possible, with great difficulty, to obtain tho f supplies required. It was estimated, Haul thp -Minister that the amount re- ■ quired for stores supplies, drugs, etc., • during the calendar year 1917, would aeach about.£l,4oo,ooo. Already orders 'have been placed to tho value of nearly .£700,000. About a third of the orders had beon placed in Wellington, Auckland, Christohurch, and Dumediii, receiving the balance in fairly equal shares. "Tf any supplier had not yet placed his name on the register of supplies I would suggest that lie do so immediately," added the Minister. Prices paid during the past twelve months showed an increase on previous charges, but having regard to the improved quality, and in many cases the larger 6ize3 of goods supplied, together with the increased difficulty in obtaining supplies and the higher wages paid. Mr. Myers rewards the result as satisfactory. Both the clothing and general stores supplies have been of very high quality.
