THE REFLOATED BARQUE

TO UNLOAD AND GO ON SLIP,

Further examination was made yesterday by Mr. August Hans, the Wellington Harbour Board's diver, of the hull of the barque which went ashore on Monday, and was refloated on Tuesday. The starboard side of the vessel has now been gone over, and the other side will bo started on this morning. Mr. Archibald Walker, surveyor to Lloyd's in Wellington, informed a Dominion reporter yesterday thai the extent of damage so fay revealed would prevent the vessel sailing for any other port, and he lias recommended that she be put on the Wellington Patent Slip for repairs. Mr. Walter is acting on behalf of Lloyd's, and also on behalf, so far, of the underwriters and owners, and his recommendation will be adopted. The vessel will therefore discharge all her cargo here, and it is hoped that within a fortnight sho will be accommodated on the Slip.

Although the barque is 800 tone larger than the biggest vessel that has ever been on the Slip, it is thought that sho can be accommodated, but tho trouble i-f tho length of the vessel. To put her on tho Slip means that tho Queen's Drive will bo blocked at that voljt. Two or throo plans arc suggested to get over tho difficulty, and tho most favoured appears to be tho building of a temporary road round tho stern of tho barque. No arrangements have been made yet, however, and some othor plan may yet bo adopted.

An anchor and a good length of cable, probably valued at .£2OO, were left behind at the time of refloating, and are lying in such a dangerous position that it is questionable whether any attempt will be made to recover them.

Unloading operations wero in full swing yesterday, and the amount of damago dono to tho cargo ought soon, to bo known,.
