MASTERTON NOTES
A sum of £\57 was taken in the patriotic shop on Saturday as a result of the efforts of Riddiford settlers. An unfortunate accident occurred at the house of Mr. Gordon Laing. of "Riversdalo," on Saturday. Mr. Laing was cleaning a gun which he thought unloaded, when the weapon discharged, tho contents lodging in the-leg of his little son. Tho boy was brought to Masterton, where his injuries were dressed. By the last mail the secretary of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association received a number of letters, expressing appreciation of tho treatment received at the Wairarapa hutment in France. Oaten sheaf chaff is at present being purchased from farmers in the Masterton district at JX per ton. A football team from the Featherston Camp (three men short) was defeated by a local combination on Saturday by .'JG points to nil. In a hockey match, a camp team defeated the local players by five goals to four.
