All inquiries for potatoes are from the North Island, but prices offered are below the parity of the local market, and only a very email amount of business is doing in cases where better prices can be obtained. There are very few potatoes being bought from the growers, and at the samo time there are not many offering, and the merchants aro in the meantime holding oft. Prices nominally aro at M lO.s. at country stations, and some rates have been made at .£3 ss. A larger quantity than usual has been sent to tho local auction rooms, aud the price obtained there has declined to from T.s. (Id. to Bs. per sack for sound samples.
