A buyer who has been through the whole of tho North' Canterbury distriut says that practically the whole of tho wheat ha"s been sold by tho growers. Olio merchant eays he has been able to secure ii few lines lately by paying up to 4s. for prime heavy Gurtons. Samples of this quality are, however, few aud far between this season in Canterbury. All classes of oats aro very firm. All inquiries for potatoes are from the North Island, but prices offered are below the parity of the local market, and only a very email amount of business is doing in cases where better prices can be obtained. There are very few potatoes being bought from the growers, and at the samo time there are not many offering, and the merchants aro in the meantime holding oft. Prices nominally aro at M lO.s. at country stations, and some rates have been made at .£3 ss. A larger quantity than usual has been sent to tho local auction rooms, aud the price obtained there has declined to from T.s. (Id. to Bs. per sack for sound samples.
