Sir,—l shall esteem it a favour if you will permit me, through your columns, to convey my acknowledgments to the many generous friends who so liberally havo provided for the troops under my command. There have been so many donors, tho gifts have been of, such acceptable variety, and havo como from so many quarters, that it has been impossible for mo to acknowledge all separately, and I ack that this general acknowledgment may be accepted. AVo highly appreciate tho gifts received which are adding greatly to our comfort and enjoyment, and wo return our hearty thanks for tho same. Most of all, however, wo desire it lo bo felt how greatly wo esteem tho self-sacrificing work of t'ho women in these trying limes. J'or refusing lo have a" operation done to his child, said to be suffering ii'om a throat complaint, a Stepney man was summoned at the instancy of tho N.S.P.C.C. It was explained that tho society wer? anxious that it should not be thought they were interfering with a parent's control of his children. Me ken: his house and children as well as could be wished, but tho operation was noccssarv for the child's pood. After mcdien eviilonco had been given, the man fciiicl ho would consent to tho operation, and tho case ma. adjourned for that purpose.
