THE \MATEUR TOURNAMENT. The Amateur Billiard-Diner Tournament, for which a very large mfniber oi cueists had entered, including four from tho Wairarapa, was concluded last night at Alcock's. Mr. T. ingley, oi Greytown, proved the winner ot A Section, and becomes tho holder of the silver challenge cup for the year, tho runnerup being Mr. Holcroft, of 'Wellington. The game between these two was a good one and undoubtedly the better man won. In B Section, W. It. Kell had little difficulty in defeatng W. R. Horse, who, through his opponent's fine play and the run of the balls being against him, -was given little opportunity of displaying his skill The best breaks were:—Kell, 33, 28, 21; Morse, 24, 20; Ingley, 37. 25, 20, 27; Holcroft, 2(i and 21.

After the games Mr. Frank Keade, in the absence of tho tournament chariman, jlr. G. N. Goldie, congratulated the winner's on their deserved success, and condoled with the losers. Ho also congratulated Messrs. Alcock and Co., Ltd., ou the generous assistance they had rendered and the excellence of the tables they had placed at tho disposal of tho players. There were no prizes, all 'the winners accepting "scrap; of paper' in lieu of the usual trophy, the entrance fees beinj donated without deduction to tho Y.M.C.A. War Fund, which will benefit by something over .£lO.
