At a meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee 10-day, the renewul of Boruhard Ballin's wholesale license was granted. The application was held over from the annual meeting, because it was considered that Ballin 3 trademark, "the German eagle," was undesirable and an affront to public opinion. Counsel for. the applicant said the trademark had been in use for fifty years, but had recently been changed, though, owing to the war, a stock of bottles bearing the new brand could not be obtained. Applicant was born 111 Germany, but was naturalised many years ago. In "ranting the renewal, the chairman, Mr. H W. Bishop, S.M., said he was satisfied with the explanation, and felt sure ■that everr effort would be made to meet the committee in its wish to have the objectionable trade-mark dealt with in Mich a wav that it would not be an affront 'to the public of the nonunion.
