INCREASED TRAM FARES
FIRST REPORT
Councillor M'Kenzie asked at tho City Council last evening if there wero any, reports as to what occurred on certain, tram routes last Sunday, when tho minimum faro was increased to threepence.
The Mayor said that he had received a. I report from the Tramway Department stating that on last Sunday 13,1!V7 less passengers were carried than on the Simday previous, June 3. On June 3 tho takings were .£3OO 10s. lid., and on Juno 10 £320 6s. -Id. The slack traffic route were Aro Street and "Wallace Street, but even on these routes the takings were fair, being:—Aro Street—lo4 threepenny tickets, 2 care; averaging ,£2 10s. Gd, per car. Wallace Street—l-50 threepenny tickets sold, two cms; averaging £2 16s, 3s. per car. Brooklyn—ll33 threepenny tickets 60ld. three cars; averaging £i lis. per car. Oriental Bay—ll72 threepenny tickets sold, three cars; averaging .£4 17s. 2s. per car. The Mayor added that last Sunday services were run with a reduction of 13 cars, and tlie running had teen well sustained, although, last Sunday was a cad day.
