THE NEW SUBMARINE HUNTERS
AMERICA'S "CHASERS" DESCRIBED
SPEEDY CRAFT OF GREAT OFFENSIVE POWER (Gee. June 13, 6.25 p.m.) Paris, June 12. Tho special correspondent of tho "Journal states: "I havo seen in port the vessels which America is constructing to hunt submarines. They are 33 yards long, propelled by petrol, are of thirty knots speed, and can replenish their petrol supply on tho high seas with the aid of tubes connecting them to tho reservoir of their parent vessel. Their armament gives them an offensive fire of extreme rapidity and considerable range, and listening instruments enable those on board to detect the approach of a submarine. They cannot be navigated under water, but can submerge for a considerable time. Several hundred of these vessels will bo on active service in a very few months.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
