ITALIAN OFFENSIVE IN THE TRENTINO
ELABORATE DEFENCE SYSTEMS CARRIED IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED (Rot. Juno 13, (1.15 p.m.) London, June 12. Italy lias opened a substantial new offensive in the Trentino. Mount Ortigatti was stormed in spite of its elaborate defensive systems, and thousands of Austrian were crushed beneath the weight of the Italian bombardment. Tho Siguollo Pass was taken-at the point of the bayonet, although fortified with coucrote armoured works. Tho "Times" Eome correspondent states that important developmonts are expected. The battle is still raging. Reports from Vienna claim that the Italian assaults collapsed after heavy losses, tho Italians being ejected on Sunday evening from the positions taken during tho morning. . . General Cadorna'e newest stroke is on a narrow Iront between Asiago and Breuta—The "Times."
