ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY
A well-atbonded meeting o£ the abovo society was held last evening, Mr. Ernest Hunt (president) occupying the chair. The business of tko meeting took tho form of a lecture delivered by Mr. Thomas Neave, 8.A., LL.B., on "Workers' Compensation." Mr. Ncavo explained tho principles underlying the Workers' Compensation Act and its amendments, and traced the development of the statutory laws governing the relationship between employer and employee from the early stages of industrial' activity. Ho also, gavo concrete examples of legal decisions bearing upon tho most contentious portion of itho Act, viz., the difficult question of deciding whether an. accident arises out of or in the course of a worker's employment. Mr. Neave then dealt with the aspects of tho law as defined in other clauses of the Act and tho effect of' such provisions upon claims made for compensation under tho Act and at common law. Many questions were asked at the conclusion of the lecture, and Mr. Neavo was wai-mly thanked for his able and, instructive "lecture. A large number of representatives of various insurance companies were present at the invitation of tho committee.
