London, June 1. Jlr. It. E. Prothero (Minister for Agriculture), speaking More tho Gajdcnors' Company, said that', half a million new ' pardons had been put into cultivation for vegetables. The salos of seeds had increased 350 per cent. "Britain," said, tho Minister, ''wants roughly nino million four-pound loaves daily. If there is no waste, and everyone tries to economise in breadstuffs, Germany cannot starve us, even if the submarines triumph so completely that no grain or ccreals reach Britain. Tho 'submarines may inflict a measure of discomfort; livo stock may he put oil very short commons, but the harvest coming to hand in September will give enough, plus .tho amount we expected to have in. foodstuffs. to pull us through."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. REGULATING TIFsALE OF CATTLE London, .Tune 1. The I'Vxxl Controller has ordered dealers to sell cattlc exclnsively to persons undertaking to slaughter the animals within a fortnight. Cattle includes rams, ewes, wethers, lambs, and swine. Another section eliminates jobbing in aales of dead meat, and restricts the salesman's profit. The l"ood Controller, Captain Buthurst, states- that though the situation is good if economy is maintained, .the Department does not take such an optimistic view as Mr. K. E.
