AXXUAL Ji.rJim.VG. The annual meeting of subscribers to (he Wairarapa Patriotic Association was held in Masteiton on Monday, Mr. Morrison presiding. In moving the adoption ol the report and balance-sheet the chairman stated that the committee since its inception, had handled .£177,500, subscribed by the people of the district. He considered the funds should be .jealousiy conserved to meet necessitous cases at the termination of the war Sir Walter liuehanan, in seconding tho motion, said there was something radically wrong with the system of medical examiiijitiun, and he gave instances in support of his contention.
After others had epeken the motiou was curried unanimously. The lollowing executive was elected for the ensuing year:—Alecsrs. J. U. Coralline (Mastertou), Gordon Hughan (Carlertoii), I). P. Morrison (Cireytown Town Committee), Q. Donald (Featherston Committee), H. A, Ncvins (Tinui Committee), W. R. Matheron (Eketahunu Committee), A. 0. C.'onsidine (Miirtinborough Committee), iE. l'lanagai and Candy (Labour organisations), and Sir Walter Buchanan, M.L.C., J. T. if. Hor.nsby, M.P., and G. It. Syfces, M.P.; trustees, Messrs. 11. Sir Walter Buchanan suggested that a. 'further appeal be made for funds, and the Claims Board was instructed to report upon the best means for raising such funds.
It whs decided that a deputation wait upon the Minister of Defence in regard to certain matters referred to in the report, and in support of the following resolution :—"That ■ this lreeting is of opinion that the Stale should take fnll responsibility from the time the soldier enters camp, and in the event of his death or disablement by disease or from accident (when on - leave included), he and his dependents shall be entitle! to the same pensions and allowances as apply when on active service." On the motion of Mr. H. IT. Ryder (lie following resolutior was carried :— "That this execntiw respectfully requests the Government to mate a regulation under the War Regulations Ant, making it illegal for any person, company, or association to dispose of any rural lands of over 100 acres hi are.i. cither bv eale or gift or otherwise until the said land has been first offered to the Land Purchase Board for closer settlement purposes, either by returned soldiers or others."
Mr. Gordon llughaii. Mayor of Carterton, suggested tint pressure be brought to bear \i.pon the Government to make the granting of (he. allowance up to £2 per week for iusnrance, etc.. retrospective, in order that all soldiers shall receive tlie same treatment.
