Mr. G. Kdhcrts replied that the shares of the British Petroleum Company and of its allied company were vested in tlm Public, Tru.itco, and the conipaniea wove controlled by directors nominated by tlie Board of Trade. Tho shares were previously registered in the name of *;i Gorman company, but of these shares thn French and tho Belgians claimed 491 per ceut. Tho Government considered that it was to the national advantage thai; the organisation of tho British Petroleum Compauy should be kept; alive and remain permanently under British control, nml they had taken steps lo otistira this object.
