INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION
A meeting of tho Wellington Industrial Association was held last night, Mr. P. J. Evaua presiding.
It was decided to accept an offer for the printing of one thousand copies of a paper on "Afforestation in New Zealand" (read at the Conference of Industrial Associations), for distribution among members of associations throughout the country.
It was resolved to forward the sum of twenty guineas to Professor Easterfield, towards the cost of industrial researches he is at present conducting. ' The association has not promised a definite sum, but it will endeavour to raise .£SO.
Mr. Mainland reported on a matter referred to a special committee of which he is convener. This committee was asked to investigate and report upon the vexatious- delays that are experienced in the shipment of goods on coastal vessels at tho port of Wellington. Mr. Mainland reported that the committee had not completed its inquiries, and Ke mentioned that there would be many inquiries yet to be made before the committee would have anything definite to suggested for submission to the Harbour Board,
The Visiting Committee- reported on a visit to the boot factory of Messrs. C. J. Ward and Co. In the discussion on the report, members of the committee expressed surprise that the people of MenZealand still could not be persuaded to buy boots of New Zealand manufacture Mr. C. D. Lightband spoke to the meeting on the subject of the manufacture of fancy leathers from the paunches of animals—materials that aie now converted into manure.
