WEATHER PROSPECTS STILL STORMY
Yesterday in Wellington and lound about opened with a thick, steady drizule, but towards noon the sky cleared, and tho afternoon was quite fine. The night was calm and fine. Elsewhere tho weather has been, gloomy, with strong westerly winds generally, and considerable rain. Piesent indications, states the official forecast, are for high westerly to southwesterly winds and colder, cloudy, and .u'nsettled weather, with rain probable generally. ' Snow on the higher levels in the .south. The barometer has a falling tendency in the south, but is due to rise everywhere soon. In the • Wairarapa our special cor« respondent states that the weather in the Masterton district, which has been very bad for two or three days, moderated yesterday morning. The rivers have subsided, but there is still a quantity of surface-water lying about. As much as seven inches of rain has fallen in three days in some of the East Coast districts. .
