. —» Tlio monthly meeting of the Makara County Council ivub held yesterday. Councillor J. Haggerty presiding, 'ihe iiiitt County Council advised that they cuuid uot let council have .their stonc-crushcr lor use at the iN'galuiuranga Gorge, aud the council decided to put souie extra hands on to crack metal by hand. Somo throe hundred yards of metal are required on the hill, borne work is to also he done on the Jolinsonville Hill. Councillors Monk and Mexted were appointed to visit the Eed Rock Quarry (Happy Valley) and report at the next meeting of the council as to the state' of the road approaching the quarry, and as to the formation thereof. A noticß was submitted for the ap-pi-ovai of the council,-and is to be put up on the Ngahauranga Gorge Eoad. The notice is to point' out that any person depositing rubbish of any kind over tho side of the Gorgo Eoad or into the .stream, will be proseouted. I Tho Newlar.ds and Paparaligi Katepayers and Householders' Association tho council to take sjtcps in connection with an alleged nuisance near the school, and also asking that the council 'force • certain residents not to keep pigs on their sections. As all the 'offences are against the county byTaws. notices are to be forwarded accordingly. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board estimates showed that the rates for the year had been increased by about .£4l). MaVara is the only local body whose rates have been increased. ..'
