Further, that an elovcninoh electrically-driven bell has been erected on tho northern end of tho tide deflector at Auckland, to take tho place of the loir-signal which -was -washed away in the cyclone in February last Tho Tokomaru Harbour Board has notified that, owing to tho recent hcaTy. floods, tho Waimo, Cove, Tokomarui Bay, Jias considerably' silted up, especially at tho cast sido oLJ,he Waima. Wharf. All soundings takeiSfsinco March last show about 5 or 6 feet less water on the cast sido, and 2ft. less on the west sido. There are practically no changes off the end of tho wharf, nor in tne channel leading to tho wharf. MESS-TABLB GOSSIP. Captain Ohas. Elders, master of tho Oorinna, has come ashore on holiday leavo, and has been' replaced by Mr. j. M'Lcan. Mr. It. F. Ohadwick, chief engineer of the Kn.ru, has come ashore, and Mr. H. Paul has joined the Teasel. Mr. W. W. M'Gregor, second engineer of the Ngakuta, has come ashore. Mr. H. W. Townsond has joined the ra'teena as third mate. The Kahika now leaves Wellington today for Gre'ymoutli. According to tho "Journal de Geneve," o, joint stock company has just been formed in Switzerland, tho object of which is tho creation of a Swiss mercantile marine. Where the company are to obtain their steamers is not stated, nor is the local harbour from which they will ply named. Nor is it_made sufficiently clear that when tho company is, firmly established with a fleet of its own the boats will bo armed and "nationalised" as the nucleus of an Helvetian navy which, the world has been expecting so long. The Kinl is scheduled to sail from Dunedin to-day with general cargo for Oamaru, Wellington, and Wostport.
