MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES. Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided- at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and heard the police eases. At an early hour yesterday morning a man named Thomas Brown was discovered by a constable sleeping on the shavings in tho engine-room of Waddell, M'Leod, and Hopkirk's Timber Mill in Waring-Taylor Street. Later he appeared in the Magistrate's Court charged with being a rogue and vagabond, in that ho was found by night without lawful excuso on private property. Accused pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to' three days' imprisonment. Martini Ladbury, for wilfully damaging a pane of glass, of the valuo of 10s., tile property of Henry Brown, was fined 10s., and was ordered to make good the damage; the alternative was fixed at seven days' imprisonment. John William Ross and Archio Ernest Cheal woro convicted of using threatening behaviour in Vivian Street so as to cause a breach of tho peace.. According to evidence, Ross was said to have bad soma provocation. Ho was fined 55., in default three days' imprisonment. Cheal was fined 10s., in tho alternative to serve seven days in gaol. On the application of Mr. JI. F. O'Leary tho case against John Joseph O'Riordan, who was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, in that lie had insufficient lawful means of support, was adjourned for a week. Bailwas fixed at £10. ■ CIVII^CASISS. Mr. S. 13. M'Carthy, S.M., heard tho civil cases. Judgment by default was given for plaintiff in the following cases: —John O'Donnoll v. Arthur Oliver Tovoy, £12 65., costs £1 lOs. 6d.; George Piinntier Smith and Ann Smith v. Ann Wall Shepherd, los., costs £1. os. 6d.; Alfred Lindsay v. Harry Martin, £G 18s. 6d., costs £1 3s. 6d.
