THE CARRIAGE OF ARTIFICIAL MANURES

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I wish to enter a protest against the refusal of the Railway Department to can.y' artificial manures during tho coal strike. Surely the person who was responsible for this regulation cannot know much about farming. . It -is all tho more inexplicable in view of the recent appeal, mado.liy the Minister of Agriculture, in tho "Journal of Agriculture," for farmers to grow wheat., Surely farmers cannot be expected to produce wheat in large quantities without manure. It would surely he much more to tho point if the Department refused to carry horses tu tlie race-meetings.—l am, etc., PERPLEXED FARMER.
