BOROUGH OF MIRAMAR
[ At Miramar last evening the Mayor (Mr. F. Townscnd) and Councillors F. H. Underwood, H. Hawthorne, M. Tracey, J. Pollock, and M. K. Robertshaw, signed the necessary cleclarations. Tho Mayor referred t<j the good work of the council during tho past year, and congratulated the council on the sound financial position. The debit balanco of the general account, which had beon accumulating for the past six years had beon reduced by over £1700. He made eulogistic reference to the work done .by the borough ongineer (Mr. John 0. Fox), who lias also been acting as town clerk and treasurer for the past twelve months. 11l outlining the policy to bo followed over the current year he was of tho opinion that, they would still have to economise, but not to the sanio extent as they bad been forced to last year. Tlio councillors generally congratulated tho Mayor on his reelection unopposed.
Spoaking at tho meeting of the Ashburtoii blanch of tho Farmers' Union on Saturday, a mombcr stated that quite recently 200 men were camped on tho Ashburtou Show Grounds for ten days. If this energy, said the speaker, had been applied to whoat growing, ho considered tlio county would have benefited more than by all the men had learned at camp. His son had to joave a six-liorso team idle during his absence at the camp.
