The monthly meeting, of the Executivo Committee.of tho Navy League .was liold.i oil Tuesday. 'J'horo were present,. Mr. J. B. Harcourt (ohairinan), Messrs. ,C. VV. Palmer, Barry, ICeesing, I£. Darroch, A. Atkins, and Mrs. Richardson. A communication was received from the Patriotic Campaign Offices (London) suggesting that the league should arranges for tho exhibition of the photo-. play, "It Is For England," throughout tho Dominion. The Christchuroh branch of tho league wrote stating that they had cabled London asking for a quotation at which tho New Zealand rights may be purchased. It was decided to await a reply from London before taking any further action. ' . On tho suggestion from the. Auckland branch the following resolution was carried unanimously, and tlie secretary was instructed to send a copy thereof to tho London office of tlio league: —"That this | branch of the Navy League vigorously I supports tlie resolution of the Centra, j Association that no proposals for peace f can in any circumstances be entertained [ without the condition precedent that j Germany shall restore to tho British | mercantile marine and the mercantile | marine of tho Allies tonnage of equivaS lent value to that wliich has been des stroyed by enemy submarines and mines 5 against international law." » A communication was received from f - Mr. Fred H. Evans, regarding the New 1 Zealand men serving 011 H.M.S. Pyramus. S He mentioned that there are a number 5 of married' men whose wives are resident in New Zealand. With tho in- : creased cost of living it is found difficult ! for these men to make an adequate allow- ! ance ,to provide for their wives, and he 2 suggested that the N.Z. Government S should make a separation allowance to 3 them similar to that granted to the wives I? of tho men joining our Expeditionary i' Forces. The question was left in the 5 hands of the chairman and the lion, sec- | retary to make further inquiries and to s report to the nest meeting. J Tho Education .Sub-committee reported S with respect to the stops being taken § to establish school branches, and also ib- regarding tho Myers' Prize Essay Comsj petition. On the recommendation ot the | sub-committee it was decided to ask Mr. a Bakowell, Assistant Inspector of Schools, SI to act as judge of the essays, a number having already been received. . The sub-committee appointod to deal with tho Palmer Prize Fund reported that' the amount received and promised up to the present is about .£6O. Other contributions are expected, and it was decided to leavo the fund open lor a further period.
