CHURCH MEETINGS

ST. PETER'S PARISH The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Peter's Parish was held Jast evening. Boy. H. Watson presided over a good attendance. _ Ho stated that the work of the parish had been well maintained for the year. The Ladies' "Working Party had collected £150. The safe roturn from active servico of Dr. Kington Fyffe, the organist, was referred to. Rev. Watson thanked Miss Rooheck and Messrs. P. AY. Rowley and H. AV. Shortt for presiding at tho organ during the absence of Dr. Fyffe. He thanked also the church workers and tho choir. The sum of £629 13s. 6d. had been raised at Kelburn for. tho new church, and of this amount £52 had been collected by the children for tho baptistry. The Miteholltowii Church had paid £25-off its debt, and tho Taranaki Sp-eet Mission was now free of debt. Tho following officers were elected: — Vicar's churchwarden, Mr. A. Richards (re-appointed); parishioners' churchwarden, Mr. R. Wilberfoss (re-elected); vestry, Messrs. H. F. Allen, A. Anderson, W. E. Bethune, G. 6. Hodgkins, S. G. Hamertoh, G-. Lawrence, H,. W. Lloyd, and G. W. Robinson, Dr. H. Pollen and Capt. T. H. Chudley; lion, auditors, Messrs, W. M.orrah and A. H. -Hollis (re-elected). The following nominations have been received for the threo vacancies for synodsraen:—Dr. W. K. Fyffe, Messrs. Evans, T. Ballinger, and E, Wilberfoss. ST. MARY'S, KARORI. ' ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of parishioners of St. Mary's Ohurch, Karori, was held last evening. The annual report stated that although the regular bunday offoriories show only u small increase (Is. 10d. per Sunday), tho special offertories which are for work outside of our own parish, show a very praiseworthy increase During the previous year these amounted to £54, but for the year just closed they amounted to £95. "This result," continues the report, "was largely owing to the monthly collections at tha intercessory services for distribution to N.7j. soldiers by the N.Z. army chaplains at the front. These collections accountß for £31. _ That so large a portion of the parish incofflo as £95 should be subscribed for mission, social and charitable work outsido of its. own boundaries is worthy of commendation. Tliero is an increaso in the subscriptions and donations of about £5, and the Makara Committee lias increased its contribution to tho parish funds from £25 to £30. Auother very satisfactory feature in the accounts is the paying of the mortgage on tho vicarage. Tho balance of tho money borrowed to build the'vicarage fell duo in January and was paid off by £350 kindly lent us ty tho Makara Churcn Committee from 'its new church fund and £100 raised by the Ladies' Guild at a. very successful sale of work. The actual caßh in hand at tho end of tho year was sufficient 'to pay all accrued interest and a few accounts, leaving the. net indebtedness of the vestry, £350 to the Makara church-building account. In lending this amount tho Makara Committee- has £'150 in hand towards about £750 required for a now church there." The report stresses the need of tho parish keeping steadily in view the completion of tho church building and a fund for this purpose, it is urged, should bo begun without delay. "Tho great outstanding event of tho past year," the report goes on to state, "was the jubilee of the parish and thoi consecration of tho church which was conpnomorated'by the erection of a small brass plate.. There has been an alteration m tho boundaries of tho parish. 'After aii arrangement .between the vestry of 'Island Day and ourselves, the standing committee . detached that part of our parish Sjituateci in. the city of "Wellington lying between the city boundary and Ohiro Road'and added it to tho Island Bay district. It being distant from our church could not readily bo reached and lay conveniently to Island Bay. The vestry of Island Bay was willing and anxious to provide t services for the new settlers now residing there. The architect has now finished the design and plans of the completed church, and it is expected these will he available for exhibition in' the Chnrch Hall in a few days." Messrs J. W. Harrison and T. W. Bellett wero appointed churchwardens. The Vestry was re-elected. Mr. A. "W". Andrws was appointed Synodsman for tho next threo years. . ST. ALBAN'S, EASTBOURNE. Tliero was a good attendance at the animal meeting of parishioners held in' tho Eastbourne Hall on Thursday evening, and the acting-vicar (the Rev. T. Gardner) occupied tho chair. Tho churchwardens reported that sinco r ,tho opening tho church had filled a great -need in the district. St. Alban's had no seat rents, no ibazaars, lio concerts, nor any similar entertainment for raising funds. The weekly expenditure of the church was £6 125., which was met by tho free-will offerings of friends and visitors. The. officers elected for the ensuing year were: Vicar's churchwarden', Mr. T. Ballingor; parishioners' churchwardon, Mr. Thomas AY. Pilcher; vestry, Messrs. P. Atkinson, C. A. Baker, A. G. Bollinger, De la More, H. Downs, AV: R. C. Macpherson, C. Russell, and S. F. AVright; auditor, Mr. T. AV. F. Marsden. Special votes of thanks were passed-.to the various churchwardens, and to Mr. R. L. Button, who ha-s left the .district, for his many services on behalf of the. church, in various capacities. ; The accounts showed that the general offertories amounted to £132 4s. 4d.. an increaso of £16, and the special offertories to . £40, 175. lid., also m\ increase of £16 over last year. Thft debt on the church was reduced bv £20 15s. during the year, and at March 31 stood at £479. Since that date, however, £49 additional had been paid off, leaving a balance of £430. Several subscriptions to special church funds, totalling £51 Bs. 2d., wero received, and in addition the land sold at Day's Bay was paid for. ST. LUKE'S AVADESTOWN. The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Luke's. AVadestown, was held on Tuosday evening, the vicar (the Rev. C.Tt. Harvey) presiding. The report of the vestrv, read by Mr. F. J. Halse (churchwarden) stated that the. financial position of the church was satisfactory, the receipts _ for the year showing tho substantial increase over last year of £50. There had been an advance of £16 in the general offertories, and the collections for special funds had been liberally responded to. Tho annual sale of work was held in Novemher last with encouraging results, £100 being paid off the vicarncro dobt, which now stands a.t £EBO. Tlio balance-sheet showed total receipts amounting to £352 lis. 3d., and'a balance after nnying all liabilities of £44 6s. 6d. The report and balancesheet were adopted, and tho vicar gave a short address expressing satisfactin-i with the progress of church work in the district. Mr. H. Panlchnret was appointed churchwarden by the vicar, and the election of other church officers resulted as follows:—People's churchwarden, Mr. F. J. False; vestry, Messrs. J. S. AJoung. S. Brico, G..A. Taylor. Hilkio. C. H. AVyott. AV. .1. Lees. P. J. Wilkinson. J. G. Cook, B. S Withers, and 11. Alder-son; auditor. Air. AV. Ri. Morris. Mr. AV. J.
