WHEAT AND MEAT

BEFORE BOARD OP AGRICULTURE. ' The Board of Agriculture at its-meet-ing' this week spent some time in discussing what could be done to induce farmers to grow a larger area of wheat, so as to ensure that an ample supply will bo raised in the Domiuion during the coming season. The hope was expressed that, in spite of the shortage of labour in the rural districts, there will be a good response to the request of the Government to increase the wheat .production. The shipping, question, also, received much consideration, and details were submitted to the board showing the comparative figures for 1916 and 1917 in connection with the stocks of meat held in cold Storage in the Dominion. The president stated that representations had been, made to the Right Hon. the Prime Minister urging him to take steps to ensure that at the conclusion of the existing agreement between the Imperial Government and the NewZealand producers to purchase all the meat available for export, the whole of the stocks in store at the conclusion of the war should be taken over by tlm Imperial authorities, and not thrown back on the hands of the owners. The board is again strongly urging the Minister that, this matter should be pressed on the Imperial authorities with a view to the representations being given effect to, so that the trouble complained about by producers might be remedied.

; News has reached us concerning a greatly increased demand for the already famous Victor Cheese Vat. Its new principle of middle drainage and sloping bottom moke for quicker and more satisfactory production, which, in turn, assures bigger profits. Write for details to A. J. Parton, Sheet Metal' and Plumbing Works, Carterton. Write now, while you have the matter in mind.—Advt.
