RUMANIAN RELIEF FUND
1 LETTER FROM LORD ROSEBISRY. The following letter, under date February 17, has been received bv the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) from Lord Rosebory, president or' the National Rumanian Relief Fund: — "Dear Sir,—To mark this country's appreciation of the noble step taken by our new Ally, the National Rumanian Relief Fund has been opened to present field hospitals, motor ambulances, etc., to Her Majesty Queen Marie of Rumania, who has graciously granted her royal patronage to the fund. "M. Take Joneson, the great Rumanian statesman, telegraphs: 'Heavy fighting has taken place., Our wounded require every aid and are jilready returning from tho battlefield in "large numbers. Your help is most welcome, the need being great. Tho Rumanian people, proud to fight for the cause of liberty and civilisation on the side of the nation that was first to proclaim tho doctrine of tho sovereign rights of the small nations, see in this noble movement (National Rumanian Relief Fund) a new proof of the unalterable friendship between the great British nation and tho Latias of the East.'' "A ready and generous response to this appeal will not only alleviate the sufferings of her gallant troops, but will also cement the bond of friendship between Rumania and Great Britain. •Will you help?" A footnote states that the King of England sent a. donation of £100, and Queen Mary £50 to the fund. His Worship the Mayor will be pleased to receive and acknowledge any donations for this deserving fund, and will seo that donations are forworded to the proper authority in London.
