LIMITED. '. : - NOTICE TO GAS CONSUMERS GENERALLY. . TN view of tho present scarcity of -*-' Coal, and the consequent effect on <the supply of Gas for domestic and industrial purposes, the Directors of the Gas Company desire to earnestly appeal to Gas Consumers to exercise every possible economy in the U66 of Gas. ' Every effort has been made by the Company to secure sufficient coal to meet tho present emergency, but no further supplies are now available, and the Company is solely dependent npon the stock in hand to maintain the gas supply of the City and Suburbs. .At tho normal .rate of consumption the gas supply can only be maintained for about a. month. The Directors therefore invito the cordial assistance of all consumers,'in their own interest, in endeavouring_ to restrict unnecessary consumption, in order that the supply may be continued as long as possible. Gas is largely used for lighting, cooking, heating, and power purposes, and it is suggested that economy in all these directions can be made:— IN LIGHTING: By dispensing- with all lighting of shop windows, inside and outside. .By extinguishing all pilot lights and lights in halls and passages and other places where lighting is not absolutely required; and By reducing the number of rooms in use in the evening, and using as few lights as possible. ~ IN COOKING: - ' By tho more economical use of gas cookers. ' This can easily be effected by cooking tho maximum number of dishes at one time. It should be remembered that it only requires as muoh gas to oook an oven full as an oven half full, and a further saving can bo made by turning the gas down before the cooking is finished, and by turning the gas off immediately the cooking is completed. IN HOT WATER FOR BATHS: By' using the minimum quantity of water, required. j The Company confidently anticipates that the above suggestions will meet with tho heartv approval and practical co-operation of every gas consumer, in the hope that tho present crisis may be speedily, terminated and normal conditions, restored. J. H. HELLIWELL.. Secretary.
